Scented Candles: The cozy factor of a candle is unbeatable. Well, actually, it’s probably not – I am writing this newsletter from a cafe heated by a wood-burning stove, and that is even cozier. But I don’t have such a stove in my apartment and would likely find my anxiety around fire to be an obstacle to using one even if I did. Enter candles. I have been experimenting with having a morning candle and an afternoon/evening candle – one with a brighter smell for mornings (the current one is lemon and bergamot!) and one with a warmer smell for later in the day. As long as I am picky about which candles I buy, I love the way my apartment smells now, in addition to the flickering flame. It does require some diligence in candle-smelling in the relevant TK Maxx (that is not a typo, for some sort of trademark reason it is TJ Maxx in the United States but TK Maxx in Europe!), since I have a lot of smell requirements. But as long as I have the patience to develop the slight headache as I filter out a lot of horrible vanilla and cloying artificial florals, I can end up with lovely lighting and a pretty-smelling home. Do NOT buy a fancy candle and then “save” it. They are for USING!!
