Hair clips, specifically mermaid ones: I am growing my pixie cut (which I loved) back out into a bob with bangs (I missed my bangs!!). I have a wonderful hair person who is making my awkward-length hair look as non-fluffy and messy as possible during this grow-out. I also wear headbands or scarves or hats most days as a kippah-type practice. Also kippot, sometimes, but not lately because I simply do not want to talk to Germans about being a woman in a kippah. Headbands et cetera are pretty good for managing this hair stage, but an unexpected hero has been barrettes. When I clip the front parts of my hair back, it starts to be bob-shaped rather than blob-shaped! I did not come to Germany with barrettes, so I have taken to buying cute ones from the children’s hair accessories section of the drugstore. I have sparkly pink and purple, squiggly yellow, and generally am building a collection of mood-boosting delights. But by far my favorites are the ones shaped like TINY MERMAIDS! And the tiny mermaids, which are like little friends who can come with me places, are themselves wearing little headbands. So frum, little mermaids!!
